Best Budget Highchairs in Australia
You do not need to spend hundreds on a highchair. We've been making accessories for the cheap ones for years, and the honest answer is that a $20 chair with the right bits added beats most of what sits at ten times the price.
Here are the three we'd actually buy, what each one does well, and what each one is missing.
IKEA ANTILOP — still the one to beat
Around $20 for the chair with its safety belt. The tray is sold separately.

- Assembles in under ten minutes — four legs push in, that's it
- Wipes clean completely, and the legs come off so it fits in a car boot
- Comes in white and grey-blue
There's a reason you see these in cafes and restaurants everywhere. Nothing traps food, nothing is upholstered, and there's almost nothing to break.
What it's missing: there's no footrest, so smaller children sit with their legs dangling. A footrest gives them something to push against, which makes a real difference to how long they'll sit still. The seat is also hard moulded plastic — fine for a quick meal, less so for a long one.

Target Snacka — the cheapest of the three
Around $19. Suitable from 6 to 36 months, up to 15kg.

- Removable tray and height adjustable, which the ANTILOP isn't
- 5-point safety harness
- Folds flatter than the IKEA for storage
What it's missing: the legs connect in the middle, so leg wraps won't fit. A silicone placemat can be trimmed to fit the tray, which is the easier upgrade here.

Kmart Prandium High Low Chair — the comfortable one
$29, and the only one of the three with height positions worth using. Suitable from 6 to 36 months, up to 15kg.

- 5-point adjustable harness and a removable wipeable tray
- Anti-slip feet, which matters more than it sounds on floorboards
- Comes apart easily for storage
What it's missing: same as the Snacka — the legs join in the middle, so no leg wraps. A trimmed placemat is the fix.

What all three have in common
They're all hard plastic, none of them come with a footrest, and all of them are easier to live with once you've added two things:
- A footrest, so legs aren't dangling through a whole meal
- A cushion cover — ours come in cotton and a vegan leather range that wipes clean in one pass
We make all of these in Geelong, and they're designed around these specific chairs rather than sold as one-size-fits-all. See the full highchair range.
Prices checked October 2026. We've linked straight to each retailer so you can see the current price — budget chairs go on sale often, and the Snacka in particular drops below $15 fairly regularly.
